Consciousness and conditioning.

CONSCIOUSNESS is like a lake:

with waves, it becomes the mind, without waves it becomes the soul.

The difference is only of turmoil.

Mind is a soul disturbed, and soul is mind silenced.

The mind is just the ill state of affairs, and the soul is the healthy state of affairs.

Mind is not something separate from the soul, as waves are not separate from the lake.

The lake can be without waves, but the waves cannot be without the lake.

The soul can be without the mind, but the mind cannot be without the soul.

When there are great winds and the lake is disturbed, there is turmoil. And the lake loses one quality in that turmoil, and that is the quality of reflection.

Then it cannot reflect the real. The real becomes distorted. There may be a full moon in the sky, but now the lake is not capable of reflecting it. The moon will still be reflected, but in a distorted way.

It will be reflected in thousands of fragments. It will not be any unity; it will not be collected, integrated. It will not be one.
The real is one. But now the lake will reflect many millions of moons; the whole surface of the lake may be filled with silver. Everywhere, moons and moons — but this is not true.

The truth is one: when the mind reflects it, it becomes many; when consciousness reflects it, it is one.

Consciousness is neither Hindu nor Mohammedan nor Christian.

If you are a Hindu you are still in the mind, distorted. (Next talks by osho after this to describe it in detail)

If you are a Mohammedan you are still in the mind, distorted.
Once the mind has settled and the waves are no longer there, you are simply a consciousness — with no adjective attached to it, with no conditioning attached to it. And then truth is one. In fact, even to say that truth is one is not right — because one is meaningful only in the context of many. Truth is so one that in the east we have never called it ‘one’; we call it ‘non-dual’, not two.
From:- THE DISCIPLINE OF TRANSCENDENCE VOL 4 by Osho.

My comments :- Consciousness is neither Hindu nor Christian or something else. This talk is to inform about how a person becomes one such.

“This is what has been done up to now.

THE PATTERN IS ALREADY THERE BEFORE YOU COME INTO THE WORLD.

And you come not like anybody else; YOU COME AS A UNIQUE INDIVIDUAL

so how can you really fit?

With all their effort, still, the dress never fits perfectly. Sometimes it is too loose. Sometimes it is too tight.

If it is tight it makes you miserable, IT MAKES YOU UPTIGHT, it makes you an Englishman (laughter).

If it is too loose, it makes you lousy, it makes you an Indian! (laughter) And you always look silly!

IT IS ALWAYS SOMEBODY ELSE’S DRESS THAT YOU ARE WEARING, you always become A LAUGHING STOCK.

PEOPLE ARE PARADING AS BUFFOONS, for the simple reason that THEY ARE TRYING TO FIT WITH A CERTAIN PATTERN which was not basically planned for them, for their uniqueness.
AND IF THEY DON’T FIT, NATURALLY IT CREATES GUILT: ‘Something is wrong with me.’

Everybody is saying that you have to fit — ‘These are the shoulds and these are the should nots’ — AND WHEN YOU DON’T FIT YOU FEEL GUILTY….

My comments :- Everybody is feeling guilty as the end result.

My comments:- A guilty mind is equally incapable of entering the centre of being like any religious person.

Awareness meditation is the way worked for me, may be you too find it suitable otherwise Dynamic meditation is for most of the people. There are 110 other meditation techniques discovered by Indian Mystic Gorakhnath about 500years before and further modified by Osho that one can experiment and the suitable one could be practiced in routine life.

Osho International Online (OIO) provides facility to learn these from your home,

  1. through Osho Meditation Day @€20.00 per person. OIO rotate times through three timezones NY,Berlin and Mumbai. You can prebook according to the convenient time for you.
  2. There is OSHO Evening Meeting streaming which can be accessed every day at local time starting 6:40 pm (of which Osho says that he wants his people to view it all over the world and these days it is possible) and 16 of the meditations mostly with video instructions and so much more on visit https://iosho.osho.com
There is a 7 days Free Trial also for people who would like to first try it out.

This is an opportunity for learning and knowing Osho through these sannyasins who lived in his presence and brought to life his words in best possible quality in all formats.

Disciples of Jesus left him alone in last minutes but Osho’s disciples remained with him till he left his body willingly after working, till last day, for all of us to get enlightened. Jesus tried hard till last minute, before being caught, to teach meditation to his disciples. As per Saint John’s Gospel:- Jesus used word ‘Sit’ to transfer his meditative energy to them and went on to pray God, but on returning he found them sleeping. He tried two times again but in vain.

Even today Zen people use word ‘Sit’ for meditation in their saying ‘Sit silently, do nothing, season comes and the grass grows by itself green’.
